If race is a thing, I'm proudly Blasian (Black and Filipino). I was born into an American and immigrant family and raised in Okinawa, Japan. Shortly after high school, I enrolled into a junior college, got engaged and married my high school best friend who joined the U.S. Army. I supported his 26-year career which took us around the world.

Military life was far from easy. We moved about a dozen times. Transiency stifled any chances for a traditional career. Jobs on base were often limited and as a result, my work history was anything but linear. From a patchwork of experiences, I learned the vulnerable art of reinvention and tried my hand at a number of job roles. Did I mention it was hard? I learned the importance of work ethic, reliability and nurturing relationships. My most creative adventure (and biggest failure) was my footwear company that I dissolved before it could really get off the ground. Although I didn't realize the business potential, I gained a foundation of business knowledge that later opened bigger doors.

We were stationed in Kentucky twice. Because of my scope of experiences, I was vetted to support an SBA program where I consulted 200+ start-up projects ranging from restaurants, day cares, coffee houses, retail stores to doggie boutiques etc. It was fun and fast until the 2008 depression swept through the United States. Lucky me, I received an incredible OJT education on the full business life cycle multiple times over. To this day, my key take aways weren't sunken in strategy. Instead, I learned how human capacities of courage, adaptability and resilience are the secret sauce to success.

I've always been a student of life. Over time I earned several degrees that culminated in a PhD in I/O Psychology. In 2010 I crossed over from student to teacher and became a professor for two universities, was distinguished faculty, department chair and led programmatic assessment and taught in Schools of Business Leadership and College of Psychology. I taught and led in the classroom for over 10 years.

In 2014, I founded CaPeesh Consulting Inc., a leadership development practice and later credentialed as a professional coach with concentrations in mindfulness, somatics and leadership. In 2019 I was trained by Dr. Brené Brown to facilitate her Dare to Lead (DTL) curriculum. This work has been transformative for me in every domain of life. It takes courage to raise a teen in these times! My practice expanded breadth and depth of trauma-informed organizational work by studying with luminaries, such as Bob Anderson, Thomas Hübl, Amy Fox, Zander Grashow, Lisa Lahey, Gina LaRoche, Dan Siegel, Stephen Porges, Richard Schwartz, and Jennifer Wynn.

After 3 decades, my biggest learning is that almost every high functioning person has a limit before their impact takes a dive. That tipping point sits at the seat of the Soul. Drawing from the ancient Hebrew practice called “Shabbat” or “Sabbath,” we believe that pausing for rest to rekindle connection with self, Spirit and others are foundational for sustainable impact.
